The City of Fort Lauderdale is working with a consultant team to develop the engineering design plan for Las Olas Boulevard from Andrews Avenue to SE 17th Avenue. From Friday, September 20, to Friday, October 4, the team will collect information on the underground utilities along Las Olas Boulevard.
Will this impact the activities on Las Olas Boulevard?
Our priority is minimal disruption to people using the sidewalk or traveling along the corridor. The crew will work on the sidewalk and outdoor seating before 7 a.m. Also, the crew will mark the utilities with chalk where possible rather than paint to limit the visibility of markings. There will be no road or lane closures during this project.
What information are we collecting, and why is it important?
The team’s survey crew will collect the underground utility information in the coming weeks. Accurate information on the location of underground utilities will provide the basis for the engineering design above ground. This due diligence before engineering design will reduce potential utility conflicts during construction.
How are we collecting the information?
We want to collect accurate information that is used as a basis for our engineering design.
- On the travel lanes using truck-mounted ground-penetrating radar (GPR). The vehicle will move along travel lanes like regular traffic.
- On the sidewalk and outdoor seating area, using a hand-held GPR.
When will the survey crew work?
From Friday, September 20, to Friday, October 4, the survey crew will begin work from SE 17th Avenue and move west towards Andrews Avenue.
- On the travel lanes and other areas, the survey crew will collect data between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
- On the sidewalk and outdoor seating areas, the survey crew will collect data between 2:30 a.m. and 7 a.m.
