Take Sixx returns to the perform in Conservation Concert series opener
Take Sixx Band members are (l-r) Harold Norman, Enrique Hernandez, Ron Sancetta, Gaby Yidi, Aaron Whitman, and Steven Chavoustie.

The good times will roll once again when Tropical Audubon Society’s 13th annual Conservation Concert series takes flight Saturday, Jan. 28, 7 p.m. Fittingly, the event’s founding band, Take Sixx, again will inaugurate the wildly popular string of winter concerts.

Their volunteerism has set the tempo for other local bands to follow them onto the storied Doc Thomas House Keystone Stage.

Take Sixx is anchored by original band members Dr. Steve Chavoustie (keyboards/harmonica), Harold Norman (drums) and Dr. Ron Sancetta (vocals), amplified by Dr. Enrique Hernandez (bass guitar) and Aaron Whitman (lead guitar), with vocalist Gaby Yidi making her debut this season. Dr. Chavoustie observes, “We’re always stoked to return at Audubon.

It was Dr. Chavoustie who planted the seed for Tropical Audubon’s Conservation Concert series. While attending a private memorial service on the Steinberg Nature Center grounds in 2009, he noticed the property’s large chickee was in dire need of repair and suggested, “Let’s hold concerts here and raise the money for a new thatch!”

Since the inaugural January 2010 season, the chickee has been re-thatched three times, most recently in mid-2022 with proceeds from last winter’s concert series.

Proceeds from the 2023 concert series will help restore the outdoor kitchen and network of nature trails. The community can help by turning out to enjoy Take Sixx’s rich repertoire of classic and contemporary hits under the Tropical Audubon oaks.
