The Michael-Ann Russell Jewish Community Center is expanding its diverse cultural offerings by capturing the sounds of jazz through “Jazz at the J.” This monthly program will be presented in the Alan & Diane Lieberman Theater on the MARJCC campus.
Opening this new series of programs will be performing and recording artist Tal Cohen, a Grammy award-winning jazz pianist currently residing in Miami. Cohen is widely acclaimed, having won the Barry Harris National Piano Competition and received the prestigious Freedman Fellowship.
Cohen, whose music includes a unique blend of Jewish melodies and traditional jazz harmony, has been touring nationally and internationally. He has performed with Terence Blanchard, Greg Osby, Ignacio Berroa, and Joe Lovano. Currently, Cohen leads his own ensemble, which has performed at different jazz festivals and venues, including Jazzbez Jazz Festival (Ukraine), Detroit Jazz Festival, and Melbourne Jazz Festival (Australia), along with a three-week residency at San Francisco’s Black Cat.
Tickets for this event are $25 for General Admission and $35 for Reserved Seating for parties of 2-4. For tickets, visit www.marjcc.org/buytickets. Food and beverage will be available for purchase in advance online and at the event.
“Jazz at the J” is made possible through the support of Presenting Sponsors Alan and Diane Lieberman. The MARJCC’s eclectic cultural program is made possible, in part, “With the support of the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and the Cultural Affairs Council, the Miami-Dade County Mayor and Board of County Commissioners” and the Florida Division of Arts and Culture.
