Starting at more than $47,000, the 2022 Infiniti QX55 is a great looking SUV.
It’s clear that the people at Infiniti were thinking design as well as luxury for this beautiful performer.
It does take after its siblings: it’s got the same powertrain, suspension and inside of the QX50, which is a great way to power through the basics and get to an attractive package of tweaks. It’s got a great fastback design, which is a swooped back that is reminiscent of classic muscle cars.
The Essential trim is a fantastic value and brings with it great standard features including a Bose stereo system with 16 speakers, navigation in the dash and a camera with a full 360-degree camera outside of the vehicle.
For performance, you get a powerful engine that feels responsive and quick. It’s got a 268 horsepower variable compression 2.0-liter four-cylinder with turbo. It’s the same VC turbo system that is in the QX50. So they are taking a proven engine and offering it in the 2022 Infiniti QX55, making it an easy choice for those who want more choices in the Infiniti line.
The 2022 Infiniti QX55 delivers 28 miles per gallon on the highway and 22 miles per gallon in the city.
This is a sporty SUV and it shows on the inside. You get two-tone interior design with leather-like upholstery that feels weighty and comfortable. There are options to add both semi-aniline leather and genuine leather, which are great for anyone looking for an easy upgrade.
I really like the look of the interior, which looks classy and comfortable. One of the things I appreciate is the detail in the open-pore wood trim, which looks really good. The shift stick is located in the center panel, with the infotainment system just above it. The steering wheel feels great and is located well so the main vehicle panel is easily visible.
The one thing that I noticed that I see less of these days is a separate screen for the navigation and the infotainment, which is an interesting choice. It does make the navigation easier to see.
The Infiniti QX55 also comes standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, with wireless connectivity. This may not seem that unusual in modern vehicles but the wireless feature is actually an innovation for Infiniti, which just makes driving so much easier.
The safety features are always an important asset in a vehicle that drivers don’t always pay attention to, but should be a consideration. The QX55 has all kinds of great tools including blindspot monitoring and standard forward-collision warning combined with emergency braking.
