The Biltmore Hotel, a national historic landmark located in the heart of Coral Gables, together with the Greater Miami and the Beaches Hotel Association (GMBHA) recently announced the appointment of Matthias Kammerer as chair of the board of directors for the GMBHA.

Having contributed to the Greater Miami and the Beaches Hotel Association as an active board member for the past 16 years, Matthias now will spearhead the board’s directional initiatives, including fundraising and outreach activities as well as addressing key industry issues that impact the hospitality industry in South Florida.

“We are truly excited to announce Matthias as our GMBHA chairman of the board. We are very lucky to always have such great hospitality and tourism leaders as board chairs like Florencia Tabeni and now Matthias taking over at a very exciting time to represent our very dynamic and diverse board of directors,” said Wendy Kallergis, president and CEO of Greater Miami and Beaches Hotel Association.

A seasoned veteran in the industry, Kammerer has served as the managing director of the Biltmore Hotel nearly a decade and holds more than 35 years in hospitality and tourism in South Florida and across the globe. A European native, Kammerer has international hospitality experience in executive leadership roles in cruise ships, resorts, condo hotels, spas and golf courses. He also is experienced in openings and managing legally complex, mixed-use facilities with multiple budgets and stakeholders. His expertise and experienced career make him an ideal chair for the GMBHA.

“Serving on the board has been a privilege — it is my honor to now be serving the board as its new chairman,” Kammerer said. “We work and live in one of the greatest tourism destinations in the world and for that reason I look forward to continuing to serve the board and draw more influence for the benefit of the industry and our region at large. I’m committed to deepening my leadership role and I do it with tremendous pride.”

Matthias is replacing Florencia Tabeni, who has served as the association’s chair since 2019. A devoted supporter of the organization for nearly a decade, she will continue her role as a board member.

“When I took on this role, I never imagined I was going to face some of the most difficult times in the history of the hospitality industry. Having experienced innumerable challenges over the past two years alongside my colleagues and members, has made me appreciate the strength of our community and the resilience of our people,” Tabeni said. “It has been an absolute pleasure, and an honor to serve as chair of the Greater Miami and the Beaches Hotel Association. As we embark on the recovery process I have tremendous confidence in the future of the organization in Matthias’ capable hands.”
