The birds are back! Conservation Concert season reboot, Jan. 29
Take Sixx returns to the Tropical Audubon Keystone Stage.

After a 22-month pandemic hiatus Tropical Audubon Society’s Conservation Concert series will reboot on Saturday, Jan. 29, with Take Sixx inaugurating the birding organization’s signature concert series for the 12th year.

Their volunteerism has set the tempo for other local bands to follow in their footsteps on the storied Doc Thomas House Keystone Stage.

It’s with gratitude and heightened anticipation that Tropical Audubon Society will open its gates on Saturday, Jan. 29, to members, friends and neighbors to welcome back Take Sixx.
Founding band members Dr. Steve Chavoustie (keyboards/harmonica), Harold Norman (drums) and Dr. Ron Sancetta (vocals) have since been joined by Janet Scarpatetti (vocals), Dr. Enrique Hernandez (bass guitar) and Aaron Whitman (lead guitar).

“We’re stoked to return to Audubon, it’s our favorite all-time venue, and we’re really into supporting an organization that helps protect Biscayne Bay and the Everglades,” Chavoustie said. “I love the water, love to boat and fish, and glad that we can help protect our natural resources.”

It was Chavoustie who planted the seed for Tropical Audubon’s Conservation Concert series. While attending a private memorial service on the Steinberg Nature Center grounds in 2009, he noticed the property’s large chickee was in dire need of repair and suggested, “Let’s hold concerts here and raise the money for a new thatch!”

Since the inaugural January 2010 concert, the chickee has been re-thatched twice and proceeds from the Jan. 29 concert will help thatch a new chickee structure, which replaces the hurricane-battered original that collapsed last winter.

The community can help raise the new chickee by turning out to enjoy Take Sixx’s rich repertoire of classic and contemporary hits under the Tropical Audubon oaks.

Tropical Audubon Society is located at 5530 Sunset Dr. Gates open at 7 p.m.; music begins at 7:30 p.m.; lights out at 10 p.m.
