The Everglades Foundation Appoints George Kosar as Associate Vice President of Development

The Everglades Foundation, a non-profit organization based in Palmetto Bay, Fla., has named George Kosar Associate Vice President of Development. The 20-year veteran of fundraising in higher education will work alongside Vice President of Development in leading the expansion of philanthropic support to meet the increasingly ambitious goals of the Foundation’s long-term strategy.

Kosar most recently served as the Assistant Vice President of Institutional Partnerships at Georgetown University. Previously, he served as Director of Foundation Relations at Boston University where he led institutional fundraising efforts in the university’s first-ever campaign, which surpassed its initial $1 billion goal with $1.85 billion in achievement. Kosar also was the Associate Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations at Tufts University’s Fletcher School, and a Major Gifts Officer for the Harvard Kennedy School, where he worked with the Dean’s Council, an advisory group of CEOs and global leaders.

Kosar has taught Fundraising and Grant Proposal Writing at the Harvard Extension School and Northeastern University. He also has taught fundraising for the Fulbright Program in Bulgaria, and for Harvard’s Dumbarton Oaks Research Library and Collection. Prior to his work in academia, Kosar served as Political Affairs Officer for the Japanese Consulate in Atlanta.

He has a Ph.D. in Comparative History from Brandeis University; his doctoral work focused on the Russian Revolution of 1917 and is based on extensive research in Russian archives. He also earned a M.A. in History from Boston College, and a B.A. in Russian Studies from the University of Virginia.
