Innovation and vision have always been core strengths of the non-profit, Community Health of South Florida, Inc. (CHI). For 50 years, the organization’s leaders have been looking at the landscape of needs in South Florida and forecasting demand well into the future. It has grown to accommodate those needs with skill and urgency.
“We always have to make sure that we are working towards solutions for our communities beyond right now,” said Blake Hall, CHI President. “We take strategic planning very seriously. Every year our corporate team and board meet to plan our healthcare strategies for the future. As a result, we are constantly transforming ourselves and evolving to put patient care first.”
From day one of CHI’s inception, transportation in the South Dade community was a challenge. The non- profit quickly organized itself to provide free transportation to and from appointments. Over the decades, patient demand for transportation has only increased. Currently CHI has six buses and four vans in its fleet of 32 total vehicles. Soon even more new vans will arrive to aid the issue.
Expansion of services has always been a priority as well. In the next few years, CHI aims to open a state-of-the-art Children’s Crisis Center, a new campus for its Brodes H. Hartley Teaching Health Center, a newly renovated and expanded Coconut Grove Health Center, new health centers in Key West and Key Largo and an additional center in Kendall which will serve as an expansion of primary care services.
CHI’s second largest health center, the Martin Luther King Clinica-Campesina will undergo a major renovation in the near future. Plus, the dental department at the Doris Ison health center has expanded to add six additional operatories with state-of-the-art equipment including new panoramic x-ray machines.
The future of CHI will continue to build upon its staff training and development and include additional use of data driven technology. The organization plans on upgrading its Electronic Health Record system (EHR) for a more integrated and improved delivery of care.
CHI has also always understood that healthcare goes far beyond the walls of its health centers. For this reason, it is investing in additional outreach team members to have more liaisons in the community to connect people to care.
Beyond the outreach team expansion, the corporate team is also laser focused on strengthening community partnerships.
Community Health of South Florida, Inc. is deeply rooted in the fabric of its communities in Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties and devoted to a holistic approach to public health. It understands the importance of the social determinants of health: economic and social conditions that influence a person’s health status. By addressing those social determinants, CHI will continue to have a profound impact on the healthcare of South Florida.
