The Miami short Film Festival (MIAMIsFF), in partnership with Deering Estate, presents “Focus On: Struggles and Growth of Life” on Sunday, Mar. 12, 7 p.m., at the Deering Estate, 16701 SW 72 Ave. in Palmetto Bay.
Guests can enjoy a welcome cocktail and the screening of five short films about how life is filled with challenges that test our resilience and determination. Tickets are $20; students, seniors and military, $14.

Dec. 24, 1983, 10:50 p.m.; Julie and her cousins ate too much sugar, Santa Claus is late and Denis, alone in his car, is anxious at the idea of setting foot in his ex-in-law’s house to pick up his children. The film is an early coming-of-age that is as squeaky as it is poetic.
