The Miami Symphony Orchestra and its music director and conductor, Eduardo Marturet, recently introduced the Junior Composer-In-Residence Program, a unique initiative, first in its kind, that aims to find and partner with young and talented composers who are looking to take their music careers to the next level.

This innovative and unique program is specially designed to bring together the best talent and provide the tools for new artists to show their work.

Maestro Tarcisio Barreto will serve as a tutor to the program. Trained as a director and violinist in the National System of Youth and Children’s Orchestras and Choirs of Venezuela, his extensive and invaluable experience will contribute to the development of all participants by proving the best coaching methods.

With the World Premiere of Surroundings, a suite for piano and orchestra, 12-year-old piano sensation and virtuoso Brandon Goldberg has become the first Junior Composer-In-Residence. The suite was premiered on Nov. 16, 2018, at the Miami Design District with a very positive response from an audience of more than 3,000 people.

Brandon was one of the soloists in the MISO CHIC concert, on Dec. 16 2018, where he performed his own rendering of Golconda by Eduardo Marturet, enchanting the audience with his carisma and virtuosity.

When Maestro Marturet took over the artistic direction of the Miami Symphony Orchestra in 2006, he faced the challenge of developing a more creative structure for its repertoire, and the way it was going to be delivered. It was in 2010 when he decided to commission composer Carlos Rafael Rivera to write a trumpet concerto especially written for Arturo Sandoval, to open MISO’s 2010-11 season, considering him as the first recipient of MISO’s Composer-In-Residence program for 2010-12.

MISO has supported its Composers-In-Residence Program for almost 10 years, having performed over 30 world premieres, offering the opportunity to expose these master pieces to the South Florida community and beyond.

Having the following 10 inspired Composers-In-Residence already participating in the program makes this a one-of-a-kind project:

Tarcisio Barreto
Alejandro Campos
Tulio Cremisini
Giancarlo Castro D’Adonna
Paul Desenne
Florencia Di Concilio
Orlando Garcia
André Mehmari
Mauricio Rodriguez
Robert Tindle

MISO continues its mission to present symphonic music of consistently high performance standards to a culturally diverse audience, through a variety of settings and formats that aim to educate, engage and enrich the community of one of the world’s most international cities.
