The Palace Coral Gables showcases works of noted illustrator Marty Elkin

Cartoonist and illustrator Marty ElkinThe Palace at Coral Gables, a luxury senior living community, welcomes opportunities to showcase the talents of its residents. An opening reception recently was held to honor the work of noted cartoonist and illustrator Marty Elkin.

Elkin studied at the prestigious Hogarth School of Art in New York while attending Brooklyn College at night. His black and white pen and ink drawings were finished by colorists and used for the covers of graphic novels produced by Harwell Corporation.

He also submitted cartoons to The New Yorker and Cosmopolitan magazines. Working as an artist wasn’t suited to the needs of a growing family, so Elkin put his art aside and pursued a corporate career with Avis Corporation.

Though he has always shared his drawings with his children and grandchildren, he came out of “art retirement” to help his cousin create the poster for Steven Spielberg’s blockbuster film, Jurassic Park.
