Thousands of families flocked to the Homestead-Miami Speedway for the City of Homestead’s Drive-In 4th of July Celebration, where they tailgated and picnicked while awaiting the fireworks display.

Thanks to a partnership between the city and Florida Keys Media, 100.3FM broadcast music and announcements for those in attendance before a special address by the Homestead mayor and city council.

The celebratory occasion also was tempered with reverence during a moment of silence where everyone was asked to shine a light for the Surfside building collapse victims, their families and friends, the rescue workers, and all those involved in the recovery efforts.

After the moment of silence, local performer Andrew Aquino sang the National Anthem and the fireworks display began.
