The Coral Gables Community Foundation conducted its most successful Tour of Kitchens to date on Saturday, June 12. Due to ongoing COVID-19 concerns, Outdoor Living was the theme this year.

Moved from February to June with a twist focusing the city’s best in al fresco living, luxury pools, gorgeous outdoor furniture, architectural shade and barbecues, guests were dazzled with the latest inspirations for outdoor living and design, while offering indulgences from local restaurants and vendors along the way, and ending the day with a bash at Bay 13 Brewery.

New this year, was an opening breakfast at the Shops at Merrick Park where guests enjoyed breakfast, mimosas and coffee while checking in for the tour. More than 600 “Tourists” drove or biked (led by Bike Coral Gables) around the City Beautiful visiting 11 homes ranging from the landmark home of Weston Lyons and Dr. Raul Vasquez-Castellanos, Villa Palmarito, which was built in the heart of the Italian Village in 1927, to the delightfully Deco home of John and Patricia Wish on North Greenway Drive featuring a stunning mosaic pool created by Mosaicist Inc. founder Ray Coral, featuring 24K white and yellow gold.

“With so many of us spending time at home and outside over the past year and a half, we were excited to showcase this year’s revamped edition of the Tour of Kitchens featuring the best in outdoor living” said Venny Torre, Foundation board member and Tour of Kitchens chair for the sixth year. Torre added that “events such as the Tour of Kitchens make it possible for our community’s best and brightest students to reach their goals,”
Tourists also visited the home of Foundation board member Matthew Meehan, also featuring a Mosaicist designed pool. Guests were treated to a live Roaring ’20s trumpet performance of New York, New York courtesy of Gramercy restaurant.

More than a tour, proceeds from the Tour of Kitchens benefit the Coral Gables Community Foundation and its Culinary Arts Fund, which provides support and scholarships for the Culinary Arts Program at Coral Gables Senior High School.

“We are thrilled with the positive feedback from the Tour of Kitchens-Outdoor Edition. After such a challenging year, the enthusiasm and community support has been overwhelming” said Mary Snow, president and CEO of the Coral Gables Community Foundation.
