More than 100 residents attended the Town of Cutler Bay’s inaugural Active Adults Life Convention on July 23. Taking place at East Ridge retirement community at Cutler Bay, the three-hour event provided attendees a chance to “be inspired, rediscover themselves, meet new friends and get involved in their community.”
Featured speakers were David Octavio Gandell, a two-time cancer survivor, life coach and motivational speaker, as well as Jeff Q of Dade County Comedy. There was music, raffles, giveaways and lunch at no cost to attendees.
Paola Perez, events and programs specialist for Cutler Bay’s Department of Parks & Recreation, thought it was a success.
“I am very pleased with the turnout of the attendance for the Active Adults Life Convention,” Perez said. “We had over 100 residents in attendance and were at maximum capacity. This was the first time we had ever done an event of this kind, so we were optimistic it would benefit the attendees. Thankfully, I have received positive feedback from those who came. The topics in discussion at the event seemed to encourage a lot of people. We will definitely be making this an annual tradition.”
Jean Tong-Noon, president of the Cutler Ridge Woman’s Club, said she enjoyed it. “We had a wonderful time.”
The event was sponsored by Humana, Bright HealthCare, East Ridge at Cutler Bay, All One Realty, Catholic Hospice, and Van Orsdel Funeral & Cremation Service.
The Active Adults program provides many events and activities throughout the year for town residents age 55 and older. More about this program can be found at www.cutlerbay-fl.gov/activeadults.
