South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA) will hold a small ceremony celebrating the one-year anniversary of Tri-Rail service at MiamiCentral with a special dedication to the project funding partners, on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at 9:00 a.m. The SFRTA will showcase a commemorative plaque at the train station and on a locomotive engine recognizing the funding partners that supported the project since its inception.
“It has already been one year since Tri-Rail trains started running directly into downtown Miami,” said David Dech, SFRTA Executive Director. “The commemorative plaques we present during the ceremony will cement the legacy set by the funding partners to help bring the service into fruition.”
Tri-Rail service at MiamiCentral began Saturday, January 13, 2024, when the system enhanced its train schedule to expand service bringing Tri-Rail trains directly into downtown Miami. The service presently includes 26 weekday trains, including an express train service, and 23 shuttle trains on weekends that directly serve the station.
The funding partners that supported Tri-Rail’s Downtown Miami Link Project include Bayfront Management Trust, City of Miami, Citizen’s Independent Transportation Trust, Miami-Dade County, Miami Downtown Development Authority, Omni Community Redevelopment Agency and Southeast Overtown/Park West Community Redevelopment Agency.
