The Village of Palmetto Bay is reporting that new funding for the planned Veterans’ Park has been secured with the help of U.S. Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar from Florida’s 27th Congressional District which includes Palmetto Bay.

Village Mayor Karyn Cunningham recently made the announcement.

“As we move ever closer to breaking ground on Veterans’ Park,” Mayor Cunningham said, “I’m thrilled to announce that Congresswoman Salazar successfully included the park in Congress’ Consolidated Appropriations Act (FY 2024 minibus), which will provide Palmetto Bay with $200,000 in funding for Phase 1 construction. I want to thank Congresswoman Salazar for her hard work and commitment in securing these funds for the village, and I look forward to inviting her to the groundbreaking ceremony.

“This assistance is especially meaningful since Veterans’ Park will not only enhance the Village of Parks public green spaces but will also stand as a monument to the brave men and women who have dedicated their lives to preserving the freedoms we enjoy here in our Village and throughout the nation,” the mayor concluded.

Veterans’ Park, which will become the sixth park in the village’s park system, saw new progress after a recent Special Council Meeting at the local American Legion Post. At the meeting, Mayor Cunningham signed the park’s plat in front of members of the Veterans’ Park Task Force and other esteemed members of the military, bringing dreams for the new park even closer to reality.
