U.S. Special Operations Command South (SOCSOUTH) held its annual Memorial Day ceremony to honor those who died in service to their country. The SOCSOUTH Memorial Wall bears the names of 142 Special Operations Forces personnel who lost their lives within the U.S. Southern Command’s area of responsibility. “This memorial bears great significance to ensure the remembrance of those who carried forth the courageous cause of freedom are not forgotten,” said SOCSOUTH Deputy Commander Mark L. Brown. During the ceremony, a moment of silence was observed before the playing of taps, honoring the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the nation. Following taps, Chaplain LTC Michael Smith concluded the ceremony with the benediction.
U.S. Special Operations Command South (SOCSOUTH) is a joint (military members from all five services) Special Operations headquarters that plans and executes special operations in Central & South America and the Caribbean, principally employing Special Operations Forces provided by USSOCOM and its Service Special Operations Forces (SOF) component commands. The headquarters staff of military, DoD civilian employees, and contractors is comprised of more than 300 personnel headquartered at the Homestead Air Reserve Base.
