More than 100 United Way volunteers honored and celebrated Martin Luther King Jr. on Saturday, Jan. 18, by gathering at the YWCA Colonel H Zubkoff Headstart, the YWCA’s largest early education center, with 30 teachers and administrators serving 160 students across the facility.
Volunteers built new furniture, updated décor and provided a fresh coat of paint to the family resource room, all to offer a welcoming space for children, parents and families to spend quality time together. The space provides daily educational services to children ages birth to 5 and emphasizes social, physical and emotional cognitive skills development, all the while providing mental health and family support to hundreds of children and families throughout Miami-Dade.
Bilzin Sumberg, Guzman & Company and the Miami Dolphins sponsored the volunteer project.
