The Village of Palmetto Bay is conducting a survey to get resident input for the Resilience Action Plan and associated Vulnerability Assessment. The plan is part of the Resilient Florida Program, which is intended to “evaluate current and future flood risks and vulnerabilities and identify ways to adapt and become more resilient to flooding.”
A Steering Committee composed of local stakeholders and village staff was formed to guide the planning process, and resident input will help the Steering Committee to define goals and objectives for a resilient Palmetto Bay and identify critical assets, flood risks, and opportunities for adaptation.
During a recent park event, Andrea Candelaria, who is the staff liaison to the Resiliency Committee, staffed a booth with three members of the Resiliency Committee — Sussette Irizarry, Mohammed Taha and Heidi Faller — for the purpose of letting residents know about the survey, the reasons it was being conducted, and why it was important to everyone.
The Vulnerability Assessment will evaluate compound flooding in Palmetto Bay, including sea level rise, storm surge, rainfall-induced flooding, the effects of groundwater changes and the interconnected system of canals.
To participate in the survey, go to www.palmettobay-fl.gov/1500/Future-Goals and scroll down to the link provided, or scan the QR code to reach the survey form.
