The Village of Palmetto Bay conducted its formal groundbreaking ceremony for the new Coral Reef Park Recreation Center on Saturday, Sept. 28.
Participating were Mayor Karyn Cunningham, Vice Mayor Leanne Tellam, Councilmembers Steve Cody and Marsha Matson, village manager Nick Marano, and Parks and Recreation staff.
The ceremony included a brief program with special remarks by Mayor Cunningham, followed by the official groundbreaking. It was an opportunity to celebrate the village’s commitment to “Investing in our Future: Building a Legacy of Excellence through Park Innovation.” A special cake with an image of the new building was an added touch.
The new recreation center replaces the original county constructed building which had developed serious structural flaws over the years and had to be demolished. The new building will be used for fitness classes, senior programs, teen events, as part of the village’s Summer Camp program, and more.
“Thank you to everyone who came to Saturday’s groundbreaking ceremony for the new Coral Reef Park Recreation Center,” staff posted after the event. “We can’t wait for our residents to enjoy all the possibilities this exciting new addition will bring to our community.”
