The Village of Palmetto Bay has for some time been using two iBus vehicles to carry residents from the Park ad Ride location at St. Richard’s Holy Rosary Catholic Church on SW 152nd Street to the Dadeland South Metrorail Station, using the transitway that runs parallel to S. Dixie Highway. The village had secured authorization from Miami-Dade County to use the transitway to reduce travel time.
Now, however, because the county is scheduled to begin operating its new Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project in July of this year, the village will no longer be able to use the transitway. As a result the iBus will have to use S. Dixie Highway from the starting point to Dadeland South, which will “significantly” increase the travel time. Fewer trips will be possible.
As this will affect the village’s commuter residents, Palmetto Bay is conducting a survey to find the best of several options. One is to continue iBus service to Dadeland South but with fewer trips each day. Another would expand the on-demand Freebee service to include transportation from home to the nearest BRT station. A third would create a new iBus route connecting the Park and Ride lot with the BRT station at SW 152nd Street. The fourth would create a new iBus route that would only loop around the village without connecting to the Park and Ride lot.
The survey can be taken by going to www.surveymonkey.com/r/TN67YDB or by scanning the QR code provided.
Residents who regularly rely on the iBus service are urged to participate in the survey. Village officials in charge of the iBus route were unable to provide an estimate of how many residents normally use the iBus at the time of this writing.
