Village offers wide variety of recreational activities

The Village of Palmetto Bay will be offering a variety of recreational programs and activities as summer winds down and turns to fall.
There’s a wide range of activities available to residents according to Jennifer Zika, Special Events & Programs coordinator for the village.
“All youth programs run September through December, except for the YMCA Adaptive Activities which starts in October,” Zika said. “Adult programs are already in progress and continue through December.”
There’s Yoga by the Bay classes on Sundays at 9:30 a.m., conducted at Thalatta Estate, 17301 Old Cutler Rd. Residents are invited to enjoy relaxing yoga classes by Biscayne Bay. Instructors will lead participants through a variety of breathing, energizing, restorative relaxation and meditation practices.
Cost is $6 plus a convenience fee per person, per class. Registration closes at 3 p.m. on the Friday before the class and reopens the Monday after the class.
At Palmetto Bay Park on Mondays, 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. there’ is the Stretch & Relax Class for Active Adults. The village is partnering with Baptist Health for this chair exercise class, which moves to Perrine Community House during the summer months. No registration is needed. A Pilates Core & Stretch Class takes place at Perrine Community House on Wednesdays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. This is a free core-focused exercise class also in partnership with Baptist Health, featuring a releasing stretch designed to build a powerful and flexible midsection with Pilates variations. Limited spots are available. Residents can register onsite. Bring your own mat and water. Send email to Programs@baptisthealth.net if you have questions.
Then there is the Knit & Crochet Group on Mondays, from 1 to 3 p.m. and on Thursdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Coral Reef Park Recreation Center for anyone who loves to knit or crochet.
Join the free community group to stitch, socialize, and share tips and techniques with fellow crafters. All experience levels are welcome. Bring your ideas, patterns, tools, and yarn. Free to attend. Sign up on-site.
More into games?
There is the Mahjong & Cards Group on Mondays from 1 to 3 p.m. and on Thursdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Coral Reef Park Recreation Center. This also is a free community group. Attendees may socialize, share strategies, and enjoy playing with fellow enthusiasts.
All experience levels are welcome. Bring your own cards, Mahjong set, or other game materials. Sign up on-site.
Want something more active? There’s the Adult Pickleball Clinics at Coral Reef Park. The clinics are structured sessions designed to help players improve their skills in a fun, social environment, and are led by a Top Spin coach. You can focus on specific techniques through drills and guided instruction. Check for dates and times of beginners and intermediate sessions.
It should be noted that all programs are subject to change due to holidays and weather considerations.
