The Village of Palmetto Bay again will host its annual National Night Out event honoring the men and women in uniform from its municipal district on Aug. 5, and this time there is something new.

“This year’s event will be better than ever because we’re combining it with a Back to School Funfest,” said Robert Treadwell, village public information officer. “While supplies last, we’ll be giving away free backpacks and school supplies in addition to the usual free hot dogs, popcorn, and frozen lemonade.”

There also will be bounces houses, bull riding, a golf simulation screen to let residents practice their swing, and an outdoor screening of The Minecraft Movie. The event will take place at Coral Reef Park.

Year-round event sponsors include Baptist Health, Audi Miami South by the Collection, and Nicklaus Children’s Palmetto Bay Outpatient Center. Other sponsors include Panter Panter & Sampedro PA, Grove Bank & Trust, SouthState, Palmer Trinity School, Waypoint Contracting, AT&T, Main Street Children’s Dentistry & Orthodontics, and parking sponsor, St. Richard Holy Rosary Church.
