Village, PTS to host Veteran’s Day Assembly and Breakfast on Nov. 12

The Village of Palmetto Bay and Palmer Trinity School will host a special Veteran’s Day Assembly and Breakfast on Nov. 12 to honor those who have valiantly served our country.

Local American Legion Post members have been contacted and all veterans are welcome to attend and enjoy a special assembly among students, a hot breakfast, and camaraderie with fellow veterans.

The event will take place from 7:45 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Palmer Trinity School in Palmetto Bay. The special guest speaker is highly decorated Army Special Forces (Green Beret) solider, Colonel Marshall “Vito” Ecklund (U.S. Army, Ret.).

Colonel Ecklund, an Eagle Scout and native of Nashville, TN, attended the United States Military Academy and was commissioned as an Infantry Officer in May 1992 after earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Foreign Area Studies (Latin America).

He has had an extensive military career in Special Operations and other key posts, and served as the Deputy Chief of Staff and later Executive Officer to the Commanding General of the John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School (Special Operations Center of Excellence) from August 2012 through June 2014.

After graduating with the Class of 2015 from the United States Army War College at Carlisle Barracks, PA, Col. Ecklund was assigned as the Director of Operations (J3) at Special Operations Command South at Homestead Air Reserve Base from June 2015 through October 2016. His final assignment before retirement was as the Deputy Commander, Special Operations Command South.
