The Village of Palmetto Bay will have a special event called First Responders Appreciation Day on Wednesday November 28 to honor members of the police and fire department who are always there, serving the village in so many ways. There’ll be a breakfast from 6 – 8 a.m. and lunch from 1 – 4 p.m. for First Responders at Village Hall in the second floor training room. This is a great thing to do, and to help educate the youngsters about the importance of their work there are two contests for students, a poster contest and a poem contest.
Here are the rules for both, as provided by village staff:
Poster Contest for Kindergarten and First Grade Students.
The Village of Palmetto Bay invites students to be a part of the 2018 First Responder Appreciation Day – Poster Contest and Celebration. Encourage your students to design an original poster depicting the contest theme: “WHAT DO FIRST RESPONDERS MEAN TO MY COMMUNITY?”
● Entry must be original artwork created by a student who is currently in Kindergarten or First grade. A student may enter only one poster.
● Student’s first, last name, name of homeroom teacher and grade must be written in the back, lower right-hand corner of the poster.
● Poster may be done in marker, crayon, paint, pens, watercolor, ink, acrylic, colored pencil and/or tempera paint. Collages are also acceptable.
● Computer or photo generated art and/or printing is not acceptable.
● Entries should not display names of commercial products, companies or organizations.
● Entry must be no smaller than 8” 1/2 x 11” and no larger than 14” x 18”
● Poster must be related to the contest theme in some way. The theme “WHAT DO FIRST RESPONDERS MEAN TO MY COMMUNITY?” should be exemplified on the poster.
● Entry should not be matted, mounted, laminated, framed or folded.
There is no limit of entries per school, as long as they are original artwork from Kindergarten and first grade students. The Village will accept all posters.
Students are to submit their contest entry to their school’s homeroom teacher. All artwork must be ready for pickup by Village staff at the school office on Monday, November 19 by noon. All posters will be used to decorate the lunchroom where the First Responders will be having breakfast/lunch. Entries from each school will be judged by Village Council and First Responders attending the event. The winner will be announced by Monday, December 3, 2018 and will receive an ice cream party and special recognition for his/her class on a date of choosing by the school’s Principal.
