Village to host senior dance workshops beginning Oct. 6
Dancing for seniors can have many benefits.

The Village of Palmetto Bay will host a series of senior dance workshops focusing on Ballroom and Latin dance styles beginning on Oct. 6 and continuing every other Monday.

The workshops will take place at the Ludovici Park complex, 17641 Old Cutler Rd., in the Edward and Arlene Feller Community Room on the second floor. The free workshops will be from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

“Experience the joy of movement, music and connection with our beginner-friendly Ballroom and Latin dance workshops designed especially for active adults 55-plus,” said the village’s promotional material. “Our professional instructors will guide you step-by-step making it easy to enjoy every moment on the dance floor.”

Instruction is provided by staff of the Fred Astaire Dance Studios of Pinecrest. No partner or prior experience is required. Registration will be on-site.

Dancing for seniors can have many benefits. It has been described as a gentle and painless way to exercise, engaging the mind and body in an enjoyable way that does not feel like typical exercise. Since its varied movements are more fluid, it tends to cause fewer injuries than other forms of exercise. It can improve cardiovascular health and build strength and flexibility — and it’s fun.
