WDNA is proud to present acclaimed guitarist, composer, arranger, producer, and educator Russ Spiegel performing live in the station’s intimate Jazz Gallery. Tickets for the live in studio performance are limited and range in price from $35 (WDNA members) to $45 (non-members). Students are invited to reserve a free ticket, bring their instruments, and join a post-concert open jam session. The Jazz Encounters series just celebrated its 15th anniversary and is curated by well-known musician and educator Nicole Yarling.
Covering a wide variety of styles from rock, blues and funk, to Latin and hard-swinging post-modern jazz, Russ has been garnering rave reviews for his performances around the world. “Channeling the spirited energy of hard bop with the progressive aesthetics of rock music, Spiegel carves out his own niche in the contemporary jazz scene,” raves All About Jazz.
In October 2023, Russ released his seventh studio album, Caribbean Blue, to critical acclaim. Along with writing scores for film and television productions, Russ composes and arranges music for all types of ensembles, especially big bands. He has appeared in film and on television as both an actor and musician, and travels the world giving workshops and masterclasses. Russ holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Jazz Composition from the University of Miami Frost School of Music. Currently he is on the faculty of Florida International University’s Wertheim School of Music & Performing Arts, and Miami Dade College, Kendall.
This concert is sponsored by Miami-Dade County Division of Cultural Affairs and Musicians Discount Center.
