Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day are moments to recognize the role women play in building strong families, strong communities, and a strong country.
For too long, women were told they had to choose between building a career or raising a family. That was the wrong message. Our country does not benefit when women feel forced to choose one or the other. In reality, our society depends on women being able to do both.
Families are the foundation of a healthy economy and a stable nation. Every generation must raise the next one. The children being raised today are the future teachers, engineers, entrepreneurs, soldiers, police officers, and small business owners who will keep our country moving forward.
Across the developed world, many countries are now facing serious population decline. Fewer families are being formed. Fewer children are being born. Economists and national security experts are increasingly warning that long term depopulation creates real risks for economic growth, workforce stability, and even national security.
A strong country needs strong families and a healthy next generation.
That is why supporting families should be a national priority. When we make it possible for women to build meaningful careers while also raising families, we strengthen both our economy and our communities. Women contribute enormously to our workforce, our small businesses, our schools, and our public institutions. At the same time, mothers and families are doing the essential work of raising the next generation.
Raising children with strong values, discipline, and love of country is not just a private responsibility. It is our duty as Americans and essential to the long term strength and survival of our nation and our way of life.
Here in Miami-Dade County, we see women doing this every day. They are raising families while building businesses, serving in public safety, working in our hospitals and schools, and stepping forward in leadership roles throughout our community.
As a mother, I think often about the example we set for the next generation. I want my daughter to grow up in a country that values both family and opportunity. A country where women are encouraged to lead, to work hard, to raise strong families, and to contribute fully to the future of their community.
That balance is not a contradiction. It is one of the great strengths of our country. And it is something worth protecting for the generations that will follow.
