Miami Autism Dad Victor Antunez interviews Cristiane Rocha, a registered dental hygienist who coordinates Colgate’s Bright Smiles, Bright Futures across Florida and founded her own practice, Sensory Smiles Coaching, for families of children with autism and sensory differences. For a child overwhelmed by the lights, the sounds, and a stranger’s hands in their mouth, the dentist’s chair can be the hardest room in the world, and Cristiane explains what that child is going through, why so many parents refuse the screening their kid could pass, and what changed the day she stopped insisting and let a frightened 7-year-old come to the chair on his own terms. She breaks down what a parent can do tonight, starting with a few seconds of brushing instead of 2 minutes, the toothbrush before the toothpaste, and celebrating the wins most people wouldn’t notice. Her nephew Ben, diagnosed with autism, is the reason for all of it, and the inspiration for her coming children’s book, Ben’s Big Cleaning Day with Tía Cris.
