This year marks the 10th anniversary of the YMCA of South Florida’s annual Veterans Day Salute, presented by Milner Technologies, honoring former and current military members. Hosted in partnership with the City of Weston, the breakfast is set for Friday, November 8 from 8:30 to 11 a.m. at Bonaventure Town Center Club, 16690 Saddle Club Road in Weston.
“Our Veterans Day Salute is a tradition for the Y as we celebrate and recognize those who have served and are serving our country,” said YMCA of South Florida President and CEO Sheryl A. Woods. “We take this opportunity to thank our veterans for their service and to their families for their support.”
Mark Nutsch, who served in the Army as a Ranger Regiment and Special Forces officer, deploying on multiple combat tours, is this year’s keynote speaker. He will share his remarkable experience leading a 12-man team in an unconventional warfare campaign following the 9/11 attacks in a mission that changed the course of history.
More than 500 veterans and guests that are expected to attend. All veterans in attendance will receive a special gift that includes a challenge coin, a commemorative shirt and more.
“We are honored to have Mark as our special guest this year. His stories serve as a reminder that we shall never forget September 11th and the sacrifices our military made during that time,” said Woods. “We invite the community to join us for this special celebration.”
According to data from the Florida Department of Veterans’ Affairs, nearly 10% of the nation’s 19.1 million veterans live in Florida, making it the third largest veteran population in the nation. Through the YMCA’s military membership, families can spend quality time together, meet other military families and enjoy the Y’s membership offerings in a supportive environment. Military benefits include opportunities for paid employment and as volunteers, facility usage for training purposes, health and wellness seminars and cross promotions of shared resources.
