FIU is among the top three public universities in the nation in Washington Monthly’s annual College Guide and Rankings, which recognize universities for both research excellence and their efforts to ensure the success of students of all backgrounds.
The rankings rate four-year institutions based on their contribution to the public good in three broad categories: social mobility, research, and promoting public service. FIU ranked third among public universities and 16th among all universities. It is the No. 1 university in Florida.
“These rankings validate what we already know about our FIU: With an unwavering commitment to innovation and progress, FIU students and preeminent faculty take on the world’s most pressing challenges and rise to meet them,” said FIU President Kenneth A. Jessell. “And we happen to offer one of the best returns on your educational investment anywhere.”
This ranking is particularly significant because FIU’s performance on the Washington Monthly rankings is among the criteria that led to the Florida Board of Governors designating FIU a preeminent state research university, one of only four in the state. The designation recognizes state universities based on student success and research performance metrics such as graduation rates, national rankings, faculty memberships in National Academies, research expenditures and patents awarded.
