FIU and Google are hosting a series of free workshops to enhance the digital skills of South Florida’s Spanish-speaking entrepreneurs and help them grow their businesses.

FIU’s Continuing Education team will host Grow with Google webinars, aimed at ensuring that the opportunities created by technology are available to everyone.

Most of the workshops are geared toward entrepreneurs and small business owners but are free and open to everyone.

Participants will learn to use free Google tools such as Google Sheets, advanced web searching, search optimization and Google Ads for business. The workshops also will cover how to use YouTube to grow a business, among other topics. A Spanish-speaking Certified Google Coach will lead each webinar, walking participants through these tools and offering tips on how to use them to boost their business ventures.

Google’s search and advertising tools supported $385 billion of economic activity in 2019, according to Google. In Florida alone, more than 1.25 million businesses received requests for directions, phone calls, bookings, and reviews through Google last year.

“Given FIU’s relationship with the Hispanic and Latin American community, and Google’s impact  on business growth, this partnership is the perfect combination,” said Mili Maldonado, manager of Continuing Education at FIU’s Office of Academic Planning and Accountability. “We are targeting the Spanish-speaking community, which is at the core of South Florida’s business community, to help them bolster their businesses in Miami and beyond.”

Learners from all over the U.S. and the world have participated in previous webinars, she said. FIU organizers hope South Florida entrepreneurs will share the workshops with their networks in Latin America.

“Our aim is to support the lifelong learning journeys of those in our community, especially during a time when higher education is evolving and learning opportunities have gone virtual” said Jorge Zumaeta, senior director of Continuing Education and Dual Enrollment at FIU’s Office of Academic Planning and Accountability.

The first Google workshop, “Habilidades Digitales para el Trabajo Diario,” will be held on Aug. 13 at noon. Register here.
