Grads get creative to celebrate virtual commencement

More than 4,500 FIU students celebrated summer commencement on Sunday, August 2 and many of them came up with creative ways tocelebrate their special day.

Graduates reenacted their commencement at home, did photo shoots on campus, used FIU TikTok and Instagram filters to share their special day, personalized their graduation by dressing up and decorating their living rooms, used their dogs to help them announce their excitement over graduation, went from student to graduate with some anime inspiration, and even used some creative editing to showcase their school journey from elementary to college grad.

To make commencement ceremonies special, graduates personalized their experience by recording a video message and creating a custom slide. The virtual ceremonies featured all the graduates’ slides and included remarks by President Rosenberg, selected commencement speakers, and each college or school’s dean.

Summer graduates, like spring graduates before them, will have a second opportunity to experience graduation day when traditional university events resume.

All virtual ceremonies are posted on FIU’s commencement page and can be watched at any time.
