Miami Music Project has been approved for a $60,000 Grants for Arts Projects award to support their Children’s Orchestras program.

As Miami Music Project’s flagship program, this direct learning music education initiative is dedicated to reaching at-risk youth with high-quality music education that increases positive youth development and kindles the skills necessary to become successful students, citizens, and leaders.

The Children’s Orchestras program is among the more than 1,100 projects across America totaling nearly $27 million that were selected during this second round of Grants for Arts Projects fiscal year 2021 funding.

“As the country and the arts sector begin to imagine returning to a post-pandemic world, the National Endowment for the Arts is proud to announce funding that will help arts organizations such as Miami Music Project reengage fully with partners and audiences,” said NEA acting chair Ann Eilers. “Although the arts have sustained many during the pandemic, the chance to gather with one another and share arts experiences is its own necessity and pleasure.”

During this unprecedented time of COVID-19, Miami Music Project has continued to serve the greater Miami community, mobilizing to ensure their students, families, Teaching Artists, and staff are all supported.

“We are beyond thrilled to be selected as one of the recipients of the National Endowment for the Arts Grants for Arts Projects, especially in the light of the past year which has presented us with challenges of overwhelming magnitude,” said Miami Music Project president Anna Klimala. “This award is one of the most prestigious honors an arts education organization can receive and truly validates our efforts. To be recognized by the National Endowment for the Arts multiple years in a row highlights the profound impact of our work.

“In the face of a historic pandemic, our students continued playing their instruments and becoming instruments of change themselves. And thanks to this support we will continue to help them reach their fullest potential and achieve their biggest dreams, both on and off the stage.”

Miami Music Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that uses music as an instrument for social transformation, empowering children to acquire values and achieve their full potential, positively affecting society through the study and performance of orchestral music. Miami Music Project’s year-round afterschool program is predicated on the idea that social transformation can be achieved through participation in an orchestra. Their students are inherently resilient, and the Miami Music Project recognizes that their journey through life can be improved with the right support, access to services, and opportunities.
