Commissioner Souto has been receiving many complaints from transit riders regarding bus shelters being used by the homeless for sleeping. The unsanitary conditions of the bus shelters and benches make them undesirable for the transit riders who need to use them to wait for the bus, so the Miami-Dade Transit Department has launched a pilot project in District 10, whereby they will install a prototype divider that will split the bench into sections in order to prevent an individual from lying across. We hope that this system of dividing the seating will resolve the problem.
