Deering Estate Chamber Ensemble concert scheduled for Sept. 30

The Deering Estate Chamber Ensemble will present a concert on Friday, Sept. 30, 8 p.m., at the Deering Estate.There will be a meet the artists reception at 7:30 p.m.

The concert, “España y Cuba,” presents works by Cuban and Spanish composers, including contemporary Cuban-American composer Tania León and the U.S.-Miami premiere of Cecilia Arizti’s Piano Trio, first performed privately in Cuba in 1893 and still unpublished.
Concerts take place in the acoustically beautiful and historic Stone House Ballroom.

Celebrating its 10th season, The Deering Estate Chamber Ensemble connects with the travels of Charles Deering to present works of original Spanish heritage and traces their influences into Cuba and beyond. Complementing the ensemble presentations, the South Florida Chapter of the American Liszt Society produces compelling recitals by contemporary pianists Kemal Gekic and Jose Lopez.

Comprised of founding members: Jose R. Lopez, piano, coordinator of Keyboard Studies, Florida International University; Ross Harbaugh, cello, University of Miami; Scott Flavin, violin, University of Miami, and Laura Wilcox, viola, Miami Youth for Chamber Music.

The ensemble came together out of a mutual respect for nature and the beautiful Deering Estate with a love to perform chamber music, work with living composers, and interact with history, nature and other art forms.

This year the Deering Estate celebrates 30 years on the National Register of Historic Places and the 100th anniversary of Charles Deering’s purchase and restoration of the Richmond Hotel for his winter residence.
