Two burglary suspects “caught in the act” earned Officer of the Month honors for Det. Alain Gomez of Miami-Dade Police Kendall District.

On patrol on May 2 in the area of Bird Road and SW 107th Avenue, Det. Gomez was notified of a burglary in progress at a SW 109th Court residence near the West Dade Academy, then covered by Midwest District.

Kept aware of an escaping pair of suspects, Det. Gomez was able to spot two individuals get into a black Chrysler with a Florida tag that he relayed for identification to the Midwest District dispatcher.

Because of his close proximity to the developing case, Det. Gomez stopped the vehicle while its occupants were leaving the Academy’s parking lot. A search revealed two latex gloves in the subjects’ pockets.

Both were taken into custody and following a review by Midwest District Det. Dennis Fernandez, the pair confessed to prying off a sliding glass door to enter a residence in the 3300 Block of SW 109th Court and were moving the car closer to the home from the Academy lot to begin removing goods when Det. Gomez nabbed them.

“As a result of astute powers of observation, alertness and dedication, two felons were apprehended, and Det. Gomez’s actions are a credit to the Kendall District and the community you serve,” said Barry White, chair of the Citizen Advisory Committee, during the CAC meeting on June 29.

With Capt. Gregory Dohring of the Kendall District, White presented the special citation to Det. Gomez as Kendall District’s Officer of the Month for June.
