Hammocks District officers arrest strong-arm robber

Local Youth Public Speaking Camp focuses on anti-tobacco campaignA strong-arm robbery by a waitress’ escaped ex-boyfriend wound up with an arrest, thanks to the surveillance and actions of two Miami-Dade Police Hammocks District officers. On July 12, a waitress at El Rinconsito Restaurant, 12825 SW 42 St., was confronted by her ex who grabbed and ran off with her purse and cell phone. Six days later, Officers Franz Vargas and Alejandro Aragon spotted the subject’s black Lexus SUV. On July 31, Citizens Advisory Committee chair James Blough (left) and Acting Maj. Arnold Palmer (second from right) presented July Officer of the Month citations to Aragon and Vargas who credited Det. Safiuddin Mohammed for a special assist in locating the subject.
