Fast teamwork by Miami-Dade Police Hammocks District officers nabbed four fleeing home robbers and $6,000 in cash, stolen the same evening (Sept. 5) from a West Kendall residence.

The arrests began when Public Service Aide Lucia Deleon observed a vehicle recklessly speeding past her while she investigated an accident at 6:40 p.m.

Summoning assistance after she stopped the vehicle and its occupants fled on foot, a nine-member team used the victims’ identifications of two suspects and the memory of Sgt. Emil Lugo, who recalled a previous arrest of a third suspect, to capture all four. Police later returned the cash to the victimized residents.

The group was honored with “Officer of the Month” citations during a Nov. 19 meeting of the District’s Citizens Advisory Committee.
