School Board approves award of GOB projects valued at $21.6M

The Miami-Dade School Board at its regular monthly meeting on June 20 approved the commissioning of architects and contractors for two General Obligation Bond (GOB) projects and the construction award for an additional project collectively valued at approximately $21.6 million.

Voters overwhelmingly approved the GOB in 2012 to renovate, remodel and replace schools; expand student capacity; enhance safety. and provide technology upgrades.

The projects awarded for design, pre-construction or construction, were the following:
Everglades K-8 Center — Scope of work includes new parent drop-off, covered walkways; additional parking (as required); new PE shelter; basketball court improvements; fire alarm, security and PA system improvements; window replacement where needed; heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) improvements; restroom renovations; miscellaneous electrical upgrades; and painting.

Total project allocation, $4.22 million; completion, June 2021; total Sub-Consultant Small Business Enterprise Participation (architect), 51.24 percent; total Sub-Consultant Small Business Enterprise Participation (contractor), 12.5 percent.

Coral Way K-8 Center — Scope of work includes site improvements, including perimeter fencing replacement; basketball court improvements; window and select door replacement; HVAC improvements; flooring, ceiling and lighting improvements; restroom renovations; electrical upgrades; roof improvements, and painting.

Total project allocation, $3.181 million; Completion, July 2020; total Sub-Consultant Small Business Enterprise Participation, 27.5 percent.

Southwest Miami Senior High School — Scope of work includes portable demolition; new bus drop-off including all related walks and covered walkways; additional parking; renovation of running track and basketball courts; replacement of exterior windows and doors throughout; auditorium lighting; HVAC system improvements; restroom renovations including ADA upgrades; electrical upgrades; and painting.

Total project allocation, $14.155 million; Completion, August 2020; total Sub-Contractor Small Business Enterprise Participation, 57.47 percent,
