Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) recently ratified tentative agreements with the American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), Dade County School Administrators’ Association (DCSAA) and Dade County School Maintenance Employee Committee (DCSMEC). These three contracts, in addition to the agreements ratified earlier with the United Teachers of Dade, Fraternal Order of Police and other unaffiliated employee groups, represent all M-DCPS employees.
All agreements include a salary adjustment as well as a healthcare package for affected employees. For 2017, the district will absorb healthcare cost increases, provide enhancements, and continue to provide the opportunity for a free healthcare option to all employees.
“Despite a very modest increase in education funding from the Florida Legislature, Miami-Dade County Public Schools remains focused on classroom priorities and investing in our employees,” said Alberto M. Carvalho, superintendent of schools.
“Under the leadership of our school board, we have been able to negotiate agreements that respect the invaluable work of employees. For the first time in several years, every employee of the M-DCPS family will know their salary and health benefits as they enter the holiday season, giving them peace of mind during this time of celebration.”
