Thirty-one banks, credit unions and financial firms in Miami-Dade County have partnered with the Center for Financial Training at Miami Dade College to provide summer internships to 100 students from Miami-Dade County public high schools in the 11th annual Future Bankers Camp.
The students will take part in bank teller training and upon completion of the internships will receive American Bankers Association Bank Teller Certificates.
“This program has proven very successful over the past decade,” said Connie Laguna, president and CEO of the Center for Financial Training – Southeastern. “Students receive practical hands-on experience, learn the social skills that will make them successful in the workplace and will receive a certificate that will help them attain employment in the future.”
The Future Bankers Camp is a project of Miami Dade College’s (MDC) School of Business & Continuing Education, the Center for Financial Training – Southeastern, CareerSource of South Florida, Miami-Dade County Public Schools/Academy of Finance and Cuban American National Council (CNC). Joining in the effort are Florida International Bankers Association, Morrison Brown Argiz & Farra LLC., and the South Florida Banking Institute.
Participating banks and credit unions in 2018 are: Apollo Bank, Banco Pichincha, Banco Santander, Banesco USA, BankUnited, Baptist Health South Florida F.C.U., BBVA Compass Bank, Biscayne Bank, City National Bank, Continental National Bank, FirstBank Florida, First National Bank of South Miami, Grove Bank & Trust, Helm Bank, International Finance Bank, JetStream Federal Credit Union, JP Morgan Chase & Co., Marquis Bank, Mercantil Bank, Ocean Bank, Pacific National Bank, Popular Community Bank, Power Financial Credit Union, Professional Bank, Sunstate Bank, TD Bank, Totalbank and Wells Fargo Bank.

High schools with students participating in the2018 program are: Barbara Goleman, Booker T. Washington, Coral Gables, Coral Reef, Dr. Michael M. Krop, Hialeah Gardens, Miami Edison, Miami Jackson, Miami Sunset, North Miami, North Miami Beach, South Dade and William H. Turner Technical Arts.
