The Miami Dade College (MDC) Sharks baseball team has taken a bite out of the competition, with an 11-game winning streak.
Having clinched the Southern Conference Championship title with an overall record of 30 wins and 14 losses, and a conference record of 17-6, the team qualified to compete at the FCSAA State Tournament, May 9-13, in Lakeland.
As of May 1, the Sharks were hitting it out of the park with a batting average of .347 and a slugging percentage of .458. They also were ranked fourth in the nation for batting average, 12th in earned run average and 20th in hits.Leading the Sharks in batting average and stolen bases was freshman Darren Seferina with 32 stolen bases, a .406 batting average, and a slugging percentage of .484.
If the Sharks win the state tournament in Lakeland, they will qualify to compete in the JUCO World Series in Grand Junction, CO, May 24-31.
