The Alhambra Orchestra continues its 25th anniversary season with a concert of virtuosic early works by two prominent composers, Felix Mendelssohn and Richard Strauss, Sunday, Mar. 22, 7:30 p.m., at Ransom-Everglades School, 3575 Main Hwy. in Coconut Grove. Admission and parking are free.
Local French hornist Dr. Jon Mayhew Anderson, a member of Miami Symphony and the Florida Grand Opera orchestra, performs Strauss’ popular horn concerto, written when the composer was only 18. It will be followed by Mendelssohn’s rousing Scottish Symphony, inspired by the composer’s tour of the British Isles when he was only 20. Conductor is Zoe Zeniodi. Bring your family to enjoy these lively youthful works.
Alhambra Orchestra is a non-profit community orchestra made up primarily of volunteer musicians. Interested musicians are welcome to audition.
