Are you ready? Come join us at Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Law enforcement isn’t for everyone — and that’s exactly why it matters so much.

At the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, we’re proud to offer good pay and benefits, opportunities for advancement, and a strong sense of purpose. But before anyone applies, I encourage them to pause and ask themselves why. Why do you want to wear this uniform?

Why do you want to serve?
Becoming a deputy is more than a job. It’s a way of life — a commitment to protect and serve your community, to step forward when others need help, and to carry the responsibility that comes with earning the public’s trust.

We see people from all walks of life answer that call. One of our current academy cadets is 53 years old. He always wanted to become a deputy, but kept putting it off. This year, he finally decided it was time. He’s in the academy now — running, training, studying — and living his dream. His story reminds us that it’s never too late to follow your calling.

Whether you’re 21 or 51, this work asks a lot of you. It’s physically demanding. You’ll run, you’ll do push-ups, and you’ll be tested in ways that push you to your limits. You’ll also have to master the academic side — understanding the law, learning our policies, and developing the judgment that defines good policing.

Applicants must have a high school diploma, no felony convictions, and a strong moral compass. Additional education or military experience comes with incentive pay. Classes last nine months, and each typically includes about 50 cadets. We currently have two academy classes in session, and our next one begins in February. Applications are open, and we’ve received hundreds — a testament to the growing interest in serving this great community.

To those who are thinking about it — even if you’re unsure — come learn more. Talk to our recruiters. Visit our training center. See for yourself what it means to be part of something bigger than yourself.

Because when you step up, it strengthens the community.

There are dangers, yes. But there are also moments of deep reward — the kind that come from helping someone on their worst day, protecting a neighbor, or mentoring a young person who reminds you of why you joined in the first place.

If you’re ready to serve with pride, purpose, and heart — we’re ready for you.
