The Area Stage Company and Theatre Conservatory has announced the opening of the classic Annie Jr. in Friday-Sunday performances, Dec. 9-18.
Based on the popular comic strip and adapted from the Tony Award-winning Best Musical, with a beloved book and score by Tony Award-winners, Thomas Meehan, Charles Strouse and Martin Charnin, Annie Jr. features everyone’s favorite little red-head in her very first adventure.
With equal measures of pluck and positivity, little orphan Annie charms everyone’s hearts despite a next-to-nothing start in 1930s New York City. Annie is determined to find the parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of an orphanage run by the embittered Miss Hanni-gan.
Adventure and magic follow as Annie transforms all those around her. With the help of her delightful fellow orphans, she foils Miss Hannigan’s evil machinations and discovers the true meaning of family; finding a new home with billionaire Oliver Warbucks; his personal secretary, Grace Farrell, and a lovable mutt named Sandy.
Musical highlights include Tomorrow, Easy Street, N.Y.C and You’re Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile.
Direction and production design is by Giancarlo Rodaz; musical direction by Katie Duerr; choreography by Nadine Candelario. Kenya Anthony-Moore is production stage manager.
Opening night is Dec. 9 at 7:30 p.m. Other performances are Fridays at 7:30 p.m.; Saturdays, 2 and 7 p.m., and Sundays at 5 p.m.
