Art auction at Alper JCC to benefit local students

The Fund4Design and Art Education will hold its third annual Art Awards and Silent Auction on Sunday, May 15, from 1 to 4 p.m., at the Alper JCC, 11155 SW 112 Ave. Admission is free to the public.

Artists and art students will exhibit their original art for sale; the silent auction will offer a variety of artworks, goods and services from local merchants, and objects d’art to help raise funds for the Isaiah Scholarship Awards for art students from Miami-Dade public high schools.

The goals for the Fund4Design and Art Education, a non-profit organization, are to further the creative development of art students by providing art materials, guidance in finding and applying to colleges, and financial assistance. In addition, students in grades K-12 are eligible to receive a Sketchbook and art supplies. To date, the Fund has awarded over $60,000 to deserving high school seniors to pursue their art education.

Three years ago, MDCPS retired art teachers, Marlene Kohn and Marilyn Traeger, decided to continue their love of art and teaching by giving back to art students by helping them to continue their art studies. They created a non-profit organization The Fund4design and Art Education to inspire the next generation of artists by offering scholarships to graduating seniors.
