What do you get when you mix a lawyer, an author, bubbles and water? You get a person like Alex Flinn who can inspire, entertain and write.
Fortunately for one young group, Alex Flinn, the author of Breathing Under Water and Beastly, took time out of her busy schedule to visit students mentored by Women of Tomorrow (WOT) at Miami Killian High School. She not only shared her life experiences but also discussed the obstacles she overcame in pursuit of her dream of becoming a writer at the tender age of 5.
Her first novel, Breathing Under Water, was written based upon her own experiences while working as a lawyer with battered women. With the latest edition edited to bring her characters into the 21st Century, you will find there are no more beepers but instead cell phones. Other changes you can read for yourself.
After her talk with the students, Flinn presented each with a personalized, signed copy of her book.
Flinn lives in Palmetto Bay with her husband, former Mayor Eugene Flinn, and two daughters.
Her latest novel, Beastly, recently was made into a movie, so it seems her success may have even exceeded her dreams as a child and WOT were certainly blessed to have her speak.
