The Belen Jesuit Preparatory administration has announced that longtime educator Olivia Zarraluqui has been named assistant principal of the high school.
“Olivia has been a key member of our administrative team since 2019,” said principal José E. Roca (Class of 1984). “Her dedication to the vocation of teaching, enthusiasm for her work, and commitment to the principles of Catholic education make her the ideal candidate to take on this position. I look forward to working with her side-by-side with the high school students.”
Zarraluqui, 46, has served at Belen Jesuit Preparatory School as the director of Faculty Development for two years and has over 20 years of teaching experience. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Florida International University, a Master of Arts in English from Fordham University, and an Education Specialist Degree in Leadership from Barry University.
“As a lifelong Catholic educator, being selected to serve as the assistant principal of the high school at Belen is an absolute honor,” Zarraluqui said. “I am grateful to have been entrusted with such an important role in the formation of our high school boys at a school that holds such a special place in my heart, in my family, and in our community. I look forward to a year of meaningful work and exciting possibilities.”
Zarraluqui was selected for the Archdiocese of Miami Emerging Leaders Program for aspiring educational leaders in 2013-14. Before joining the faculty at Belen Jesuit, she worked as a teacher at Our Lady of Lourdes Academy in Miami for 19 years. Her cumulative experience in leadership roles, organization, presentation skills, and implementation of curriculum standards make her an asset to the position. She will be taking over the role from Ramon Nicosia who has worked at Belen Jesuit since 2009 and served as assistant principal of the high school for five years. Nicosia will be returning to his native Buffalo, NY to continue his career.
