Bet Shira Congregation will observe its 36th (Double Chai) anniversary on the weekend of Nov. 5-6 with a series of harmonious services and a celebratory gala honoring founding Rabbi David Auerbach of blessed memory and the founding members of the synagogue.
The 36th anniversary observance is particularly meaningful because Jewish tradition gives special significance to the number and multiples of “18,” the alphanumeric equivalent of Chai, the Hebrew word for “life.”
Bet Shira will host a song-filled weekend featuring musical director Dr. Alan Mason, cantorial soloist Sharon Alcalay-Leibovici and an eight-piece professional choir at services on Friday, Nov. 5, at 6:30 p.m. Rabbi Mitch Chefitz, a longtime friend of the late Rabbi Auerbach, will speak on Saturday, Nov. 6, at Bet Shira’s 9:30 a.m. Shabbat service, along with Rabbi Auerbach’s son, Jon.
Saturday night will feature a Havdalah service to end Shabbat, followed by an 1980s-themed gala, beginning at 8 p.m. Cost for the event is $180 per person.
Bet Shira (House of Song) is an inclusive, egalitarian Conservative congregation embracing tradition and change. The synagogue is located at 7500 SW 120 St. in Pinecrest. For more information, call Bet Shira Congregation at 305-238-2601.
